The Government’s plans to liberalise the electricity market may come somewhat unstuck if Bord Gais’ threat to withdraw from electricity supply is carried out. The Commision on Energy Regulatino (CER) is set to confirm the ESB’s new pricing freedom this week. If the CER does indeed proceed with this course of action Bord Gais may well withdraw from the electricity supply market.
This may not be all bad in the first instance as the reason for the threat is a resulat of the Government allowing the ESB to set electricity rates freely. So, for many who moved from the ESB, there are two alternatives, return to the ESB or choose Airtricity.
In these straitened times, whether you are a landlord, tenant or owner occupier the key thing is to manage your energy cost. Be sure to shop around!
